What are people actually paying me for?

Firstly some of my musings:

Feeling inspired after a comment I heard about cuddles should be free, I felt excited about this blog.

I totally accept that people have opinions, and I feel a lot more understanding that the average person would not know what Cuddle Therapists are actually being paid for.

This is because they are associating it with the cuddles that they personally know of, which is completely understandable as this is their only reference point.

I realised very early on in this career that I was to wear many hats, and one of them is to educate and share what Cuddle Therapy actually is, as best as I could with words. People can mostly get what this is with a mental understanding. It can only really be fully understood when it becomes a feeling in the body.

If a person can remember a time when they physically felt safe, nurtured, cared for, accepted and relaxed, then it is a lot easier for them to know the value of Cuddle Therapy.

What I am being paid for:

  • For my ability to set and hold boundaries, and my ability to navigate the cuddle sessions within these boundaries.

  • To be a "safe" person. What I mean by this is that the client is accepted and cared for, exactly as they are. There is nothing to fix, change or overcome. The client can fully relax knowing they are held in love and acceptance. They can trust me to speak up if I feel uncomfortable (opening agreement).

  • For my intentionality, keeping the session platonic, relaxing and nurturing.

  • For touch that is mindful, respectful, soothing and nourishing with consent and care.

  • The training courses I have invested in, the energy, time and care I put into learning this craft.

  • My time, energy and commitment to the client.

  • Being professional, reliable and authentic. Clear communication and healthy boundaries, before, during and after sessions.

Thank you for reading, and its totally possible you have gained a little more insight into the world of Cuddle Therapy.

Have a beautiful day.

Hugs, Jo

Bonus

I had a great idea to collaborate with 2 friends and Cuddle Therapy colleagues for an Instagram Live, to dive deeper into this topic.
